The Sun Bowls Club Elizabeth Collings and Lawrence De Gruchy’s held out to win a combined 5 rinks last night against very tough opponent St Brelades.
All matches were nip and tuck, and could arguably have gone either way. In the ladies, drawing 13-13 with 3 ends to play, Joan Renouf’s rink picked up a 6. In the latter, it was all square playing the last end and the teams clung on to Kim Gallichans side toucher which was very nearly displaced by St Brelades twice on the last end to snatch a win. Well done Ladies!
For the Men, Ross Davis’ rink shot off to a lead, but were clawed back. Some excellent under pressure bowls eventually turned the battle back in the Suns favour. Greg’s rink were behind all the way being put under pressure time and time again by an excellent St Brelade’s front end- eventually the Sun rink broke into the lead and dropped 2 on the last end to win by a solitary shot. An excellent game! Malcolm De Sousa’s rink played a controlled game and always had their noses in front – running out 19-11 victors.
With St Saviours beating JBC 5-2 at the Sun on the neutral green, the Sun move 5 points clear in the Lawrence De Gruchy – an excellent start to the season.
