Mo Vowden Memorial Trophy: Friday 27th August
The second Mo Vowden Memorial Trophy was held on a glorious sunny and warm Friday evening at the Sun Bowls Club. The event sees a team of 21 ‘novices’, selected by Mo’s son Bradley, challenge a team of 21 Club members. Played as a triples game over 14 ends, the novices were given a 14 shots per rink start. After two ‘trial ends’ – and a little instruction! – the competition started. The early stages of the games were very keenly contested and the novices certainly held their own. However, in spite of their best efforts, the experience of the club members finally took control and they won by 6 rinks to 1 and by 201 shots to 130. All of the games were competitive but were played in good spirit with plenty of ‘friendly banter’ across the green – something which Mo himself would have enjoyed.
The bowls was followed by an excellent lasagne, together with salad and garlic bread, organised by Eileen and her helpers, all washed down with a few drinks from the bar! A good time was had by everyone and the atmosphere both on the green (with the background music) and in the clubhouse afterwards was excellent. A very fitting tribute in memory of a much loved and respected club member.
A selection of photos from the evening can be viewed in the gallery below.

On Sunday 30th May, we welcomed 12 members of the Old Apostolic Church to the Club for an afternoon of fun bowls and food.
